Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are abnormal enlarged/dilated veins that often appear in the legs as well as genital region. Varicose veins occur when the valves within the veins weaken or fail and cause blood to pool and the vein to swell. There are multiple risk factors for the development of varicose veins including genetic/inherited risks, age, gender (higher rate of presentation in women), some occupations (due to prolonged standing or sitting) as well as pregnancy and obesity.

Varicose veins can be painful and cause aching. Varicose veins can also be itchy and lead to conditions such as varicose eczema. At Allied Therapy Network we can assist with conservative management of varicose veins including fitting and prescription of garments as well as skin care to optimise your symptoms.
